The six regional airports are to receive a total of £1.5 million over the next year to assist with marketing, safety and security measures.
Kerry and Knock airports will receive £350,000 each, while Donegal, Sligo, Galway and Waterford will be awarded £200,000 grants.
The Department of Public Enterprise budget for the scheme was doubled to £1.5 million last year and £11 million has been made available under the National Development Plan for improvements and upgrades at the regional airports.
Announcing the allocation today, Minister for Public Enterprise Mrs Mary O’Rourke said she had decided to maintain the high level of investment this year because the regional airports played a "valuable role" in the national infrastructure.
Over the past six years passenger traffic at a regional level has increased by almost 40 per cent.
A review of the six airports’ potential for growth and development will be undertaken by Mr Anthony Foley - senior lecturer in Dublin City University Business School. He is due to report to the minister in November.
