Rehousing of sex offender worries

The rehousing of a convicted sex offender has caused considerable concern in Enniskillen

The rehousing of a convicted sex offender has caused considerable concern in Enniskillen. The man, who served time for offences in Britain, has been described in a letter from schools to parents in the area as a "high risk offender" with "every likelihood to reoffend". The man's identity remains secret, sparking concern among parents and public representatives.

The SDLP Fermanagh South Tyrone candidate, Mr Tommy Gallagher, the party's education spokesman, said parents and local communities had a right to be involved in decisions to place offenders in the community. The authorities went about this in the wrong way, he said. They housed the individual man in the community and only then asked the schools to inform the parents.
