The three died in a fire at their home on Ardmore Terrace in the Ballybeg estate. Three other children - Cian (10), Briana (7) and Aaron (5) - escaped from the house.

A trust fund for the three surviving children has been set up by a Dublin City University student Tamsin Hogan from Tramore.

The fund will be officially launched by the Mayor Hilary Quinlan on Monday.

With companies like Waterford Crystal and Bausch and Lomb in the area, it is hoped that significant donations can be gleaned from the corporate sector, while there has been significant interest from the private sector, according to Mr Quinlan.

"It's very positive," he told ireland.comtoday. "People are very kind, especially in situations like this, and I've no doubt that . . . this fund will generate a large sum of money, because we are talking about three kids left behind with no parents.

"I'll be hoping, as mayor, to write out to as many (as possible) in the corporate sector and ask people in the major industries to have a whip around."

Those wishing to make a donation to the fund can, from today, lodge money to any Bank of Ireland branch nationally on account number 40559976, branch code 906216.
