The access to the rear of premises housing 60 asylum-seekers in Co Kerry, where fire escapes are located, has been blocked by caravans and other vehicles, the High Court was told yesterday. The premises have been used to house asylum-seekers since January.
The Commissioners of Public Works, who own Atlas House, Park Road, Killarney, were granted a temporary injunction directing a number of defendants to remove all vehicles and equipment.
Mr Justice O'Sullivan was told the situation of the caravans created a serious fire risk.
In an affidavit, Mr Thomas Hogan, executive officer with the CPW, said that late last year locks on gates at the rear of the premises had been broken, and two caravans were parked there, he said. They later moved outside the gates.
Early this month, three additional caravans and a number of vehicles arrived.
