Renault and Nissan said their combined sales rose 4.2 per cent last year to 5.35 million vehicles, with their combined global market share reaching 9.3 per cent.
The Renault group sold 2.39 million vehicles in 2003, down 0.7 per cent from the previous year. The figure includes 111,431 vehicles under the Renault Samsung Motors nameplate, down 4.8 per cent, and 68,627 Dacia-branded vehicles, up 18.8 per cent.
The Nissan group sold 2.97 million vehicles in 2003, up 8.5 per cent from a year earlier.
In western Europe, the sales of Renault-Nissan Alliance was down 0.3 per cent at 2.3 million units. Renault sold 1.81 million units, down 3.4 per cent, and Nissan sold around 489,000, up 13.3 per cent.
In central and eastern Europe, the alliance's sales jumped 29.5 per cent to around 316,000 vehicles.
Elsewhere, the alliance's sales increased in Japan by 6.6 per cent, in China and South Korea by 9.8 per cent, in Latin and South America by 1.4 per cent, and in North America by 7.4 per cent, due to Nissan's robust growth.
But Middle East and Africa, sales was down by 2.5 per cent, with Nissan's declining by 4.4 per cent.
