A victim impact report has been ordered in the case of a teenager who allegedly held a 14-year-old boy captive and demanded a ransom for his release.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with false imprisonment, attempted robbery and assault in connection with the alleged incident on August 30th last year in Firhouse, south Dublin.

Judge Catherine Murphy heard at the Dublin Children's Court yesterday that the defendant and an accomplice approached two brothers aged 14 and demanded they hand over their bicycles or give them money.

Garda Kieron O'Neill, of Rathfarnham station, told Judge Murphy the defendant allegedly took one of the boys to a green area, tied his hands with black tape and put a hood over his head. The defendant allegedly told the victim's brother to get money to secure the boy's release.
