The Republic of Ireland moved up one spot to 13th in the latest FIFA rankings issued today while their World Cup conquerors, Spain, also climbed one place to third.
Spain swapped places with 1998 World Cup winners France as they flopped in the Far East, not even making it past the group stages.
World Cup champions Brazil, who headed the rankings non-stop from the 1994 World Cup till April last year, consolidated their lead ahead of Argentina.
England moved up a place to equal seventh, Italy also moved up one to equal ninth and the USA went up two slots, also to equal ninth. Colombia meanwhile, who did not qualify for the World Cup finals in Asia, dropped six places to 15th.
New Zealand made the biggest leap with a 41-place jump to 47th spot after their victory in the Oceania Nations Cup final against Australia.
