Some 400 republican sympathisers marched through Armagh city yesterday to their traditional wreath laying ceremony at St Patrick's Cemetery.

A British army helicopter hovered overhead as the marchers, accompanied by five bands and led by a colour party of 15 young women, made their way through the main shopping centre from Irish Street.

There was a banner bearing the title "Armagh Ex POWs Association" and four women carrying wreaths.

En route, wreaths were laid, at a memorial tablet in the Culdee Estate to two young Official IRA men, Jake McGerrigan and Tony Hughes, shot dead by soldiers inside 48 hours more than 20 years ago.
