A grant of £100,000 for rural resettlement in the Budget was warmly welcomed by Rural Resettlement Ireland, reports Uinsionn Mac Dubhghaill in Galway.
The organisation's chairman, Mr Jim Connolly, described it as a significant endorsement of the growing resettlement movement.
Under the proposed scheme, 100 families in urban areas would surrender local authority housing worth £6 million. In return they would be given financial assistance in becoming home owners in rural areas.
