Between 30 and 50 locals yesterday blocked Dublin Corporation engineers carrying out preliminary tests for the Dublin Port Tunnel. The tests are required under conditions attached to the approval for the port tunnel granted by the Minister for the Environment.

The residents sat on corporation rigs preventing them from operating on Fairview Green. When the corporation moved to another site, in Marino, fencing-in the equipment, local residents objecting to the tests removed the fencing and prevented a second rig operating.

The Marino Development Action Group want the Corporation to carry out a structural survey of around 100 houses before, and after, the drilling.
