A Monaghan man suffered fatal head injuries when he fell down the fire escape of a Chinese restaurant after visiting the toilet, Dublin City Coroner's Court heard yesterday. Mr John McKenna (32), of Ballinogue, Co Monaghan, died at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, last September 6th, three days after the fall at the China Inn, Monaghan.

A waitress said Mr McKenna had been in the restaurant before and knew the building's layout but took a wrong turn. He appeared to have some drink taken at the time. The Coroner, Dr Brian Farrell, returned a verdict of accidental death and said even an apparently simple fall could be fatal.
