A kitchen staff member of Roscoff, Northern Ireland's most famous restaurant, was attacked by two men with hammers on Saturday as staff prepared for business. The men entered the rear of the restaurant on Belfast's Shaftesbury Square and singled out the victim. They told staff not to interfere as they assaulted the man for several minutes. The RUC was called and the injured man was taken to hospital for treatment.
The RUC says the victim has decided not to make a formal complaint and there is no investigation relating to the attack.
There was no sectarian or paramilitary element to the beating, which was prompted by a "domestic" dispute, the RUC says.
The husband and wife celebrity chef team, Paul and Jeanne Rankin, who own Roscoff, were not in the restaurant at the time.
