A Co Monaghan restaurant owner, Michael Smyth, of Main Street, Castleblayney, was fined £250 and ordered to pay £839 costs at Castleblayney District Court yesterday, when he pleaded guilty to five charges brought by the North Eastern Health Board under the food and hygiene regulations. The prosecution alleged in Barney's restaurant in the town centre there was dirt, dust and grime in areas where food was prepared, a lack of proper sanitary facilities and the storage of pre-cooked food close to floor level in unprotected areas, where it was difficult to detect infestation.
