The Court of Criminal Appeal will give judgment on Thursday on the appeals by two men against their convictions and sentences for offences arising from the beating to death of student Brian Murphy outside Anabel's night club at Dublin's Burlington Hotel in August 2000.
The three-judge court heard the appeals by Dermot Laide and Desmond Ryan over four days earlier this month and reserved judgment. Laide (23), of Rossvale, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, was jailed at the Circuit Criminal Court last March for four years for the manslaughter of Mr Murphy.
He also received a concurrent two-year jail term after he was found guilty of violent disorder surrounding the death of the 18-year-old student. Ryan (24), of Cunningham Road, Dalkey, Dublin, was jailed for nine months for violent disorder.
His sentence was deferred to allow him complete university examinations and he is on bail pending the outcome of his appeal.
