East Antrim:
The "soft-no" UUP member, Mr Roy Beggs jnr, topped the poll and said he was "not going in to the Assembly to wreck it" Mr Sean Neeson, Alliance, was also elected on the first count. Mr David Hilditch was elected for the DUP.
North Antrim:
It was a family victory for the DUP father and son team of the Rev Ian Paisley and Mr Ian Paisley jnr, but the overall DUP vote was down. Dr Paisley was elected on the first count, Mr Paisley was returned on the second. Mr Sean Farren, SDLP, was elected on the sixth count.
South Antrim:
The UUP's secretary Mr Jim Wilson topped the poll. Mr William Clyde, DUP, was elected on the fifth count. Mr Norman Boyd, UKU, was elected.
East Belfast:
The DUP deputy leader, Mr Peter Robinson, and the Alliance leader, Lord Alderdice, were elected on the first count. Mr Robinson declared: "We are going to work the Assembly for the benefit of the union and the unionist people." The leader of the loyalist PUP, Mr David Ervine, polled strongly.
North Belfast:
Mr Nigel Dodds, DUP, and the former SDLP mayor, Mr Alban Maginness, were elected on the first count. Mr Billy Hutchinson, PUP, has a reasonable chance of a seat.
South Belfast:
The UUP's Mr Michael McGimpsey was elected on the fifth count and Dr Alasdair McDonnell from the SDLP followed on the sixth count. Mr Mark Robinson of the DUP and Mr Esmond Birnie of the UUP were elected on the eight count. The final two seats were being battled out between Ms Monica McWilliams of the Womens' Coalition, Ms Carmel Hanna of the SDLP and Mr Steve McBride of Alliance.
West Belfast:
The area's Sinn Fein MP, Mr Gerry Adams topped the poll, while Dr Joe Hendron, SDLP, and Sue Ramsey of Sinn Fein were also elected.
North Down:
Mr Robert McCartney, the area's anti-agreement UK Unionist MP, was returned on the first count. The UUP's Mr John Gorman and Mr Alan McFarland were elected on the sixth count.
South Down:
Mr Eddie McGrady, SDLP, was elected on the first count, followed by Mr Patrick Bradley, SDLP, and Mr Dermot Nesbitt, UUP. Sinn Fein's Mick Murphy was also elected.
Fermanagh & South Tyrone:
Mr Tommy Gallagher, SDLP, and Mr Sammy Foster, UUP, were elected.
Foyle:
The SDLP leader, Mr John Hume, was returned on the first count. Sinn Fein's Mr Mitchel McLaughlin and Mr John Tierney from the SDLP were also elected.
Lagan Valley:
The split in the unionist vote led to the election of the UK Unionist, Mr Patrick Roche, and the likely reduction of the UUP vote to two seats from the expected three. Mr Billy Bell and Ivan Davis were elected for the UUP. Mr Edwin Poots from the DUP was elected. Mr Seamus Close, the deputy leader of the Alliance party, topped the poll. Ms Patricia Lewsley was elected for the SDLP.
East Londonderry:
The DUP secured only one of four unionist seats, with the other two going to the SDLP. The DUP's Mr Gregory Campbell topped the poll in the constituency, and was the first of the 108 Assembly members officially returned.
The UUP's Mr David McClarty was elected on the fifth count while and the party's "soft no" candidate, Mrs Pauline Armitage was elected on the ninth count. The UUP's dissident candidate, Mr Boyd Douglas, won a seat on an independent ticket. The SDLP secured two seats, with the election of Mr John Dallat and Mr Arthur Doherty.
Newry & Armagh:
The SDLP deputy leader, Mr Seamus Mallon, was elected on the first count with 13,582 votes, almost double the quota required. Mr Mallon was optimistic about the future despite the high vote for unionists opposed to the Agreement.
Strangford:
The DUP's Mrs Iris Robinson outpolled the area's MP, the deputy leader of the UUP, Mr John Taylor. Mrs Robinson received 9,479 votes, with 9,203 for Mr Taylor.
West Tyrone:
Three candidates were elected at the close of counting last night - Mr Oliver Gibson of the DUP, Mr Pat Doherty of Sinn Fein and the SDLP's Mr Joe Byrne. The other three seats were expected to go to Mr Derek Hussey of the UUP, Mr Barry McElduff of Sinn Fein and the SDLP's Mr Eugene McMenamin.
Mid-Ulster:
Sinn Fein took three seats in the constituency, with the area's MP, Mr Martin McGuinness, elected on the first count. He was followed by Mr Francie Molloy and Mr John Kelly. The DUP's Rev William McCrea was also elected on the first count. Mr Denis Haughey from the SDLP, and Mr Billy Armstrong from the UUP were elected on the sixth count.
Upper Bann:
The UUP leader and the area's MP, Mr David Trimble, topped the poll with 12,338 votes. The SDLP's Ms Brid Rodgers was also returned on the first count.
