A €10,000 reward was today offered to try and solve the murder of a Co Offaly publican who was killed during an attempted robbery.

Matt Farrell (64), a father-of-four, was assaulted and tied up during a violent raid at The Gaelic Bar in Daingean on April 1st.

His body was discovered on the floor of a kitchen adjoining the family run pub by his son, also called Matthew.

Six people have been arrested in connection with his death. None have been charged. Some 1,200 people have been interviewed and investigating gardai have taken 700 statements. Over a dozen full-time officers are still working on the case.

Inspector Pat Murray from Tullamore Garda station said detectives want to speak to anyone who was in the Daingean area between midnight on Tuesday, March 31st and 8am the following morning.

Gardaí have also distributed posters and leaflets near the bar appealing for help.

Crimestoppers said it has offered the  reward for information that will help detectives solve the tragic case.
