Two daughters of the former Taoiseach, Mr Albert Reynolds, have dropped libel actions against the Sunday Mirror and Sunday People, the papers claimed last night.
Ms Leonie and Ms Emer Reynolds withdrew from a case they had taken in the High Court in Dublin, according to the Press Association. The case arose out of articles published in May 1993 about the sale of the Mespil Estates in Dublin and the purchase of flats by the two Reynolds daughters. Mr Marcus Partington, a solicitor for Mirror Group Newspapers, said: "We are pleased that Emer and Leonie Reynolds have decided not to pursue these proceedings. Three months ago both girls wanted £50,000 plus costs from us to settle these actions, but they have now decided to withdraw the proceedings on the basis that both sides will pay their own costs." The Reynolds sisters could not be contacted last night.
