London - British Civil liberties campaigners yesterday condemned a proposal by the Lord Chief Justice to place paedophiles who pose a clear danger to children in "protective custody" - even if they have not been convicted of any crime.
The civil rights group Liberty accused Lord Woolf of "flying in the face" of justice. There was criticism of the proposal too from the Tories, as well as the penal reform group Nacro.
