THE following is text of a statement, issued on behalf of the relatives of Imelda and Liam Riney
Re: DPP v Brendan O'Donnell We would like to thank the members of the jury for their patience and endurance and for bringing in a verdict.
We are relieved to have reached the end of a very long trial and now wish to rebuild our lives and the lives of our children. We feel that can best be done in privacy and expect the co-operation of the media in this. We will not welcome requests for interviews and are adamant in our opposition to our tragedy being the subject of sensationalism or entertainment.
There are other aspects of this case which may be considered valid subjects deserving media attention. These include the delays in the courts system, the increasing length of trials and related matters.
Finally, we would like to thank relatives and friends and members of the public for their sympathy and support over the past two years and to say how much it is appreciated.
