Overall winner and Culture and Tourism winner: Dublin Docklands Development Authority: Now in its third year, the Docklands Maritime Festival attracts more than 45,000 visitors annually over a three-day period to what was once the derelict warehouse district along the banks of the Liffey.

The newly thriving riverfront is now host to an eclectic festival based around the summer visit of sailing ships - known as "tall ships" - to the port.

The aim of the Docklands Authority's River Regeneration Strategy, from which the festival developed, was to bring life back to the Liffey by giving people a reason to visit the area and by helping them to discover its history and culture.

The festival includes boat trips on the river and shoreside activities such as markets, an art gallery, music, food and entertainment for all the family.

All ships are open to the public free of charge, and Dublin Bay sailings on the Jeanie Johnston are also available.

This year the festival will be held over the June bank holiday weekend.
