The search continued yesterday for the 16-year-old girl drowned in Co Clare as the removal of the remains of a young neighbour drowned in the same incident took place last night.
Mourners, including classmates and school staff, paid their respects at Cross's Funeral Home to the family of Victor O'Connor (16), of Ballygrennan Close, Moyross, Limerick.
Victor had tried to rescue Lindsey Kiely, of Cosgrave Park, Moyross, who slipped into the fast-flowing Ardnacrusha ESB power generating station tailrace at Parteen on Thursday evening.
The water flow was particularly strong at the time due to turbines at the station being in operation.
Both were swept downstream, because the station's turbines were switched on at the time.
The body of the schoolboy, a strong swimmer and a promising boxer who was sitting his Junior Cert exams at Limerick CBS, Sexton Street, was found beside Parteen bridge on Friday morning.
There were moving scenes at the removal and the remains were received at Corpus Christi Church by Father John O'Shea, Parish Priest of Moyross. The funeral Mass takes place at 11 a.m. today with burial afterwards.
The search continued for the body of the student who was also doing her Junior Cert at St Nessan's Community College, Moylish. It was being carried out by the Limerick Search and Rescue unit and volunteers.
The Shannon-based air sea rescue helicopter yesterday swept the area. The search was suspended early last night and is due to resume today.
People from nearby Moyross kept vigil on the bridge throughout the weekend, which was decorated with flowers and candles also burned
Meanwhile a lighted candle to Our Lady was placed in the church in Moyross as prayers were said for both teenagers and their families.
Moyross has suffered five tragic deaths in the past four weeks. Father John O'Shea, who officiated at the funeral services of all the victims, said it has been a very difficult time for the people of Moyross. "The community has shown great solidarity and has become very united in its grief," he said
