National road projects planned to ease traffic congestion include the completion of the c-ring and the upgrading of other national radial routes out of the city.
Secondary routes include the provision of the Dundrum Main Street By-pass; Dublin Port Access tunnel; the Wyckham by-pass in Dundrum; Church Road phase three in Killiney; the Lusk and Donabate by-passes; the Jamestown Road to St Margaret's Road; and outer ring road from Blanchardstown to St Margarets; a Walkinstown to Saggart road; the extension of the outer ring; improvements to the Firhouse Road; the Green Route relieving the southern Cross Motorway; a new Newcastle Road interchange; a new road and Dodder crossing from Knocklyon Road to Willington roundabout; improvements to Greenhills Road. In the Dublin Corporation area, the corporation proposes a bridge over the river at Macken Street, category B road improvements at Cork Street and the Coombe, North King Street and East Wall Road.
The total costs of these works is estimated at just under £200 million. And only then will we know if all the efforts at getting Dublin's choking traffic problem right have actually had any real effect.
