The 20-year-old engineering student charged with the manslaughter of Midleton schoolboy, Robert Holohan has been moved from Cork Prison for his own safety.
Mr Wayne O'Donoghue of Ballyedmond, Midleton, was charged with the unlawful killing of his neighbour Robert at Ballyedmond Hill, Midleton, on January 4th when he appeared at a special sitting of Midleton District Court last night.
Judge Michael Pattwell remanded the accused in custody to Cork Prison to appear again at Midleton District Court on Thursday, January 20th.
Mr O'Donoghue was moved to the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise today. It is understood there were fears for his safety in Cork Prison.
The Midlands Prison is also equipped with a newly-built observation unit designed to house prisoners deemed at risk from other inmates or from self-harm.
