Mexico City - Mexico said it had invited the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mrs Mary Robinson, who has expressed concern over violence in the southern state of Chiapas, to visit the country.

The Foreign Minister, Mr Rosario Green, extended the invitation during a meeting with Mrs Robinson, at the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, the Foreign Ministry said. It did not say whether Mrs Robinson would be invited to tour Chiapas, site of an armed uprising in 1994 over Indian rights by the Zapatista National Liberation Army.
