Phnom Penh - The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mrs Mary Robinson, ended her first trip to Cambodia yesterday, after making few inroads with a government tired of criticism of its human rights policies, political analysts said.

Mrs Robinson did receive government support for international investigations into recent political killings and the genocide of the 1970s, in which more than one million Cambodians lost their lives at the hands of the Khmer Rouge regime led by Pol Pot. But many Cambodians were doubtful the wheels of justice could be put into motion soon, analysts said. The Second Prime Minister, Mr Hun Sen, and other officials were known for placating the international community with promises of action but then making no progress, they said.

Mrs Robinson acknowledged the lack of breakthroughs on human rights during her four-day visit. She were was "very worrying".
