Romania detected a new suspected case of bird flu close to its eastern border with Moldova, the Agriculture Ministry said today.
"A sample coming from a heron found on the shore of the river Prut, in Vaslui county, tested positive for bird flu anti-bodies," Agriculture Ministry spokesman Adrian Tibu.
Earlier this month Romania became the first European mainland country to detect the deadly H5N1 in birds in two villages in the Danube delta in the south-east of the country.
