Chilean tennis star Marcelo Rios has been fined $10,000 by the ATP Tour for his behaviour during a night out in Rome last week that ended with him in jail, it was reported today.

Rios was fined the maximum amount possible by tour officials for his behaviour at an official player reception during the Masters Series event, the Daily Telegraphreported.

ATP officials met during the Hamburg ATP event yesterday and fined Rios after finding him guilty of "unsportsmanslike conduct" under the tour's code of conduct guidelines, the paper said, citing a tour spokesman.

The fine is a further blow to Rios, who is facing separate allegations arising from a reported incident following the reception.

Rios is accused of resisting arrest and assaulting two police officers after an alleged fracas with two police officers and a taxi driver. He was arrested and spent a night in a police cell.

The player is also facing a possible full inquiry by the ATP that could lead to a further fine or suspension, the Daily Telegraphsaid.
