Olympics - Equestrian: German dentist Hinrich Romeike added individual gold to the team gold he won earlier in the day when withstanding the pressure of jumping last in the finale to the Olympic three-day event with Marius.
While his nearest rivals after the earlier session, teammate Ingrid Klimke (Abraxxas) and Australian Megan Jones (Irish Jester), both lowered one fence, Romeike had no room for error. He also made sure that time didn't become an issue either by setting his grey gelding alight for a breathtaking clear and a completion score of 54.20 penalties.
The silver medal went to Gina Miles of the United States, whose clear with the Irish-bred McKinlaigh saw her move up from fourth, while Tina Cook, a late substitution to the British team, jumped from joint-sixth to take the bronze on the thoroughbred Miners Frolic which also left all the fences intact.
Earlier, Germany took the team event ahead of Australia and Great Britain, laying to rest the ghost of Athens when they had to hand back the gold following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Then Bettina Hoy, who also forfeited individual gold, incurred 14 time penalties which were not initially recorded.
