Real Madrid put their bid to retain their Champions League title back on track with a 2-1 Group C victory over Borussia Dortmund here at a rain-lashed Bernabeu Stadium on Wednesday.
The opening goal from Jan Koller was equalised by Raul two minutes before half-time and Brazilian superstar Ronaldo gave Real the crucial lead 10 minutes into the second half.
With a single point from their first two games in the second group phase, Real had to attack from the start and the Spanish side had the majority of possession.
However it was Borussia Dortmund who drew first blood when Koller collected a pass from fellow Czech Tomas Rosicky and the lanky striker drilled a low shot past Real goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
Real pulled level in the 43rd minute courtesy of the Champions League's all-time record goalscorer, Raul.
Despite sprawling on the turf, the Spanish international managed to slip the ball between Christoph Metzelder's legs and past Lehmann.
In the first minute of the second half, Raul curled a beautiful shot from the edge of the area that Lehmann had to move sharply to push away.
Real began to take control of the match, although Dortmund posed a threat on the counter-attack.
That was illustrated when the electric pace of Ewerthon carried him clear of Roberto Carlos but Casillas used his legs well to block the Brazilian's shot.
Real's crucial second goal came on 55 minutes. Zinedine Zidane curled a weighted cross to the back post where Ronaldo side-footed the ball past Lehmann, who let the ball squirm under his body.
Ronaldo was later substituted although he left the field smiling and to warm applause after one of his better nights since joining from Inter Milan.
Zidane was also taken off after landing awkwardly from an attempted header, although his substitution appeared to be no more than a precautionary measure.
The match petered out to a damp conclusion, but Real had three essential points in the bag.
