England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has confirmed that 17-year-old Everton striker Wayne Rooney will play in the second half of Wednesday's friendly against Australia.
Eriksson believes Rooney, who will become England's youngest international, will grab the chance to impress on his debut.
"It is a great, great thing for him, but I think he deserves the chance. He is a very good player, a big talent and I hope he can show that tomorrow. He's maybe a little nervous, but I guess that's very normal."
Eriksson defended his decision to field a side aged 25 and under in the second half at Upton Park, saying many of his first-choice players needed to be rested while the youngsters should be given an opportunity at the top level.
Australia coach Frank Farina will not play Harry Kewell in the game if the Leeds star fails to overcome an hamstring injury. Kewell missed the win over West Ham on Saturday.
Kewell's Leeds club mate and compatriot Mark Viduka said Wednesday's game was a timely distraction from the troubles at Leeds.
