Singers David Kitt and Maria Doyle Kennedy are among the talent booked for this year's Roundstone Arts Festival which opened at the weekend in Connemara, writes Lorna Siggins.

Over 25 musical acts, 12 visual art exhibitions, and a series of theatrical performances, literary events and children's activities have been confirmed for the week-long festival which runs until July 4th.

Music ranges from the Inishbofin Céilí Band and Andy Irvine to The Revs, Ger Wolfe, the Bray Vistas, the ConTempo Quartet, the Samboara Drummers, and the Milltown Chamber Choir. Students of NUI Galway will stage The Cigarette Breaks as part of the theatrical programme.

The festival also hosts 12 visual arts shows. Tone involves artists working with both visual art and music, including Nickie Geddes, Paul Smyth, Roesy, Kevin Ryan and Breda Mayock.

Oilean IV is the title of an exhibition of paintings from Inish Shark by artists Cyril O'Flaherty and Lol Hardiman. The Back Lane painters will also show their work at various venues throughout the week.
