The film The Wrestlerstarring Mickey Rourke and directed by Darren Aronofsky, won the Venice Film Festival's top award, the Golden Lion, at a closing ceremony late last night.
The festival announced the winner on its website.
Italy's Silvio Orlando took the best-actor trophy for Il Papa di Giovannadirected by Pupi Avati.
France's Dominique Blanc won the best-actress award for L'Autredirected by Patrick Mario Bernard and Pierre Trividic.
