League of Ireland:
Former Bohemians striker Glen Crowe has handed a massive advantage to the Gypsies in the Airtricity Premier Division title race with a late winner for Sportingl Fingal against Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.
The result leaves Bohs on course for their third title in a row, one point ahead of their Dublin rivals with just two games remaining.
The pressure was on the erstwhile league leaders after Bohemians went top earlier in the afternoon, thanks to a 1-0 win over St Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park, but they looked to have coped with it until abject capitulation in the last four minutes.
After a bright start for Fingal, Thomas Stewart finished Gary Twigg’s cross for Rovers to take a 13th minute lead, but they missed their chance to double the advantage when Chris Turner hit the crossbar in the 64th minute after he was taken down by Brendan Clarke.
It got worse for Rovers in the 87th minute, when Stephen Rice hesitated clearing a hopeful ball into the box and Gary O’Neill nipped in to lift it over the head Alan Mannus.
Two minutes later, substitute Alan Kirby found Ronan Finn on the edge of the box and the midfielder slid it to Crowe to shoot. The striker's effort looked tame until Rice stuck a foot out and deflected it past Mannus.
The Bohs win came courtesy of a controversial 25th minute goal from Raffael Cretaro, who followed up Kilian Brennan’s penalty.
The latter won the spot-kick after going down under the challenge of Noel Haverty. The defender was attempting to head the ball clear but missed it and charged into Brennan instead.
Pat’s manager Pete Mahon was incensed with the award, as were the home fans, but referee Richie Winters was not about to change his mind.
A wonderful save from Chris Bennion looked to have denied Brennan but Cretaro roofed the rebound for the crucial winner.
Sligo Roversmoved into third on their own after a 4-2 win over Dundalkat Oriel Park.
Matthew Blinkhorn opened the scoring for the visitors but the game was levelled by Ross Gaynor in the 26th minute.
The homeside then lost Wayne Hatswell to a second yellow card and Richie Ryan gave Sligo the lead from the 20 yard free-kick.
A Gaynor free restored parity soon after the break but Alan Keane and Joseph Ndo sealed the win for Rovers.
In the evening game, a Keith Ward hat-trick and a Paul Corry strike secured a 4-1 win for UCDover Galway Unitedat Terryland Park.
Stephen O'Donnell got the homeside's goal from the spot.
