Blackburn crumbled to a 3-1 defeat against Genclerbirligi in their UEFA Cup first round, first leg clash in Turkey this afternoon.

Blackburn paid for their sloppy defensive play by conceding two goals in a minute shortly before half-time.

Skoko opened the scoring in the 42nd minute by lobbing Brad Friedel from 30 yards and minutes later Souleymane Youla added a second with a unstoppable shot into the corner.

Souness opted to switch things around at the start of the second half by replacing the ineffective Matt Jansen with Andy Cole.

Blackburn looked more positive in the second period and were rewarded for their inventive play when Brett Emerton drove home a Cole through ball on 57 minutes.

But the visitor's joy lasted only three minutes with Youla outstripping Amoruso for his second goal of the game.

Blackburn kept pushing forward but were unable to get a second goal and now face an uphill task in the second leg at Ewood Park on October 15th.
