Shamrock Rovers booked their place in the second round of the Intertoto Cup as Glen Fitzpatrick's 72nd-minute header sealed victory over Polish side Odra Wodzislaw in the first round second leg tie at Richmond Park in front of 5,000 fans at Richmond Park.

The Dublin side face will play Czech Republic outfit Slovan Liberec in the second round, with the first leg taking place away next Sunday.

With a 2-1 advantage from the first leg, Rovers were always likely to qualify for the second round of a European competition for the first time since 1982 - when they beat Fram Reykjavik 7-0 on aggregate in the UEFA Cup.

The only goal of the game came after Jason Colwell headed the ball through to Stephen Grant, who in turn found Tony Grant on the left. Grant's perfect cross found the unmarked Fitzpatrick, who headed home at the far post.

The nearest Odra came to an equaliser was when Marcin Nowacki struck the bar with a fiercely struck free-kick from 22 yards, with the ball rebounding to safety. But Rovers always looked comfortable and never looked like surrendering a goal.
