League of Ireland:A late winner from Derek Doyle Byrne saw St Patrick's Athletic satay in the chase for the Airtricity Premier Division title with Bohemians, but Shamrock Rovers are still the team to beat.

The league leaders still hold a five-point advantage after a comprehensive 4-1 defeat of UCD at Tallaght Stadium.

Stephen Bradley got them of the mark after five minutes when he robbed Greg Bolger and slid the ball past Ger Barron in the UCD net.

The students found a rather fortuitous route back into the game when Ciaran Kilduff’s shot was deflected over Alan Mannus in the 26th minute, but Rovers were back in front two minutes from the break after Billy Dennehy rifled one past Barron and into the top corner.

He turned provider in the 63rd minute when his cross found Gary Twigg who powered home the header, and he was again the inspiration when he put another ball on Dan Murray’s head with 12 minutes to go.

It was a little more complicated for Pat’s and Bohs. The latter edged a tight game against Drogheda Untied when Gareth McGlynn showed a cool head in the box to convert Conor Powell’s cross.

Doyle scored the winner for Pat’s with the fifth goal of a game they were second best in for long periods.

They went behind in the 38th minute when Shaun Williams found the net but levelled when Vinny Faherty backheeled Ian Bermingham’s cross into the net on the hour.

They took the lead three minutes later when Dave McAllister finished a neat one-two with Faherty.

Conan Byrne then fired past Darren Quigley to restore parity but Doyle was on hand with seconds remaining to head home a winner for Pat’s.
