Roy Evans left his position as director of football at second division Swindon Town today after just four months in charge.

Roy Evans left his position as director of football at second division Swindon Town today after just four months in charge.

The former Liverpool boss had been considering his position after being told by new chairman Willie Carson that there will be no money available for new players.

"It's been a very difficult decision for me. I've had a fabulous time here, the fans, the players and all the staff at Swindon have made me very welcome," said Evans who signed a three-year contract at the County Ground when he joined the Robins in August.

Carson emphasised the financial contraints at the club who are in lowly 16th place in the league:

"The financial position we have found since taking over on December 7th is far worse than expected and therefore the board cannot promise with any degree of certainty that funds will be available immediately or in the near future for new players".

Assistant boss Malcolm Crosby will take charge for the clash against Notts County at Meadow Lane tomorrow night.
