LECTURERS at Limerick RTC staged a one day protest yesterday following the letting go of a colleague. The official TUI stoppage was held following the non renewal of the lecturer's contract. He worked at the college for 18 years, according to the union.
Lectures were disrupted for 3,500 students attending the three sites at Moylish, Clare Street and George's Quay. The ZTUI branch chairman, Mr Aidan Feeney, said the college ceased to employ a lecturer who was working there in part time and contract work. He had been deemed suitable for 18 years.
An RTC spokesman said the dispute arose because a part time teacher who was replacing, a permanent staff member on leave of absence lost out when the permanent staff member returned.
