An RTÉ television documentary on the kidnap and torture of a Cork-born worker-priest, during the height of Argentina's "Dirty War", has won a major award at the 2004 WorldFest Film Festival in Houston, Texas.

The Perfumed Killers won first prize in the festival's religious programmes category. It will receive a gold "Remi" award at a prize-giving ceremony in Houston today.

More than 4,500 films and television programmes from 30 countries were entered in the festival, one of the biggest of it kind in the United States.

The Perfumed Killers was produced by Ms Caroline Bleahen and presented by RTÉ's Western Correspondent, Mr Jim Fahy.

The programme, which was first broadcast in the Would You Believe television series, tells the story of Father Pat Rice, from Fermoy, Co Cork, who was targeted by Argentina's death squads because of the community work he was doing, and 30 years on, is still doing in the shanty towns of Buenos Aires.
