RTE presenter Uaneen Fitzsimons (29) died yesterday afternoon in a car crash near Borris-in-Ossory, Co Laois

RTE presenter Uaneen Fitzsimons (29) died yesterday afternoon in a car crash near Borris-in-Ossory, Co Laois. She was a passenger in a car which collided with an articulated lorry at Ballaghmore. The driver of the car was taken to Portlaoise General Hospital and was in a critical condition last night.

Ms Fitzsimons presented the Network 2 music programme No Disco, shown on Wednesday nights. She also presented a late-night music show on 2FM on weekdays. She was from Ardglass, Co Down, and received a degree in communications from Dublin City University. She worked in the BBC before joining RTE Cork in January 1997.

In place of her usual radio slot, 2FM last night played music from concerts she had attended recently. No Disco was not shown on Network 2 last night.

"It's very sad and very tragic that someone so young and so talented should have been taken from us at such an early age," Mr John Clarke, head of 2FM, said.
