RTE reports surplus of €6.8 million for 2004

RTÉ earned a net surplus of €6.8 million in 2004 according to the State broadcaster's annual report published today.

RTE said the return to profitability followed the successful restructuring programme which had been undertaken in 2002.

Commercial revenue which includes television advertising rose to €176.7 million. RTE said the growth reflected increased peaktime audience shares together with improved general market conditions.

Licence fee revenue increased by €8.7 million to €166 million. This resulted from an increase of 59,000 new licence holders and the incresae in licence fee from €150 to €152 million.
