The RUC arrested 12 youths last night in an operation prompted by escalatingteenage gang disturbances in North Belfast.
An RUC spokesman said that there was an ongoing problem posed by rivalgroups of youths fighting each otheron waste ground between Crumlin Road and Hillview Road.
He said RUC officers had been attacked with petrol bombs, stones and paint bombs when they tried to quell disturbances.
There had also been numerous stoning attacks on buses, he said.

The 12, all juveniles,have been released pending further investigations.
The spokesman said that more arrests were expected after video evidence of previous nights’ disturbances was viewed.
