A 29-year-old RUC man appeared at a preliminary inquiry at Limavady Magistrates Court yesterday to face three charges of perjury.

Mr Brian Joseph Hasson, whose address was given as c/o Strand Road RUC Station, Derry, was charged with committing perjury during a hearing against more than 30 people charged in connection with incidents during a visit by former British prime minister John Major to Belfast in May 1995.

When the charges were put to Mr Hasson he said he had nothing to say at this stage. He was returned for trial to the next sitting of Derry Crown Court on September 1st.
