Two RUC officers were injured in disturbances in Derry early yesterday morning after a crowd celebrating Celtic's victory in the Scottish premier league turned on police. A crowd of over 100 people were involved in the trouble, which was concentrated in the Diamond area of the city and occurred at about 2 a.m. One man was arrested. Around the same time in Lurgan, Co Armagh, a policeman was hurt in clashes between rival nationalist and loyalist gangs. Police said they were able to disperse the loyalist crowd but that they were then attacked by the nationalists. Two people were arrested. In the early hours of Saturday morning in Antrim a 15year-old Catholic youth was assaulted by a crowd of about 15 who beat him with hammers and baseball bats. He was attacked when he became separated from three friends at about 1 a.m. Police described the attack as sectarian.
