Rugby pundit and broadcaster Mr George Hook was yesterday fined €250 for speeding at 95 miles per hour outside Nenagh in Co Tipperary. The judge recalled that Mr Hook had also been before him last July on a speeding offence.
Yesterday Nenagh District Court heard Mr Hook was caught speeding on his way to the Ireland/Romania World Cup Rugby match at Thomond Park in Limerick last September.
He was warned by Judge Tom O'Donnell at Nenagh District Court yesterday he was giving Mr Hook his "last chance".
Mr Hook, the presenter of The Right Hook, a current affairs programme on News Talk 106, did not appear in court but was represented by Nenagh solicitor, Mr Noel O'Meara.
When the case was called in court Judge Tom O'Donnell, asked whether Mr Hook was who he thought he was.
Mr O'Meara, acting for the defendant, Mr Hook, said it was indeed who the judge thought it was and said the man concerned was "an advocate of Munster rugby".
To this, Judge O'Donnell replied: "Some days he is and some days he is not".
Mr O'Meara told the court Mr Hook was at a function in Wicklow Rugby Club on the day in question and was rushing to Limerick for the Irish World Cup game against Romania the following afternoon.
Mr George Hook, Foxrock Park, Dublin was found by gardaí on September 7th last to be speeding at 95 miles per hours on the Nenagh by-pass at Benedine.
Judge O'Donnell fined Mr Hook €250 and ordered him to pay within two months.
