It remains unclear whether the International Rules series will be resumed this autumn following meetings between the GAA and AFL in Dubai this week.
Delegates from both associations gathered to discuss the future of the hybrid game with talks focusing on playing rules and discipline following the ugly incidents on the field of play that led to the suspension of the series in 2006.
A delegation led by Nickey Brennan, which included former Derry All-Star and International Rules stalwart Anthony Tohill, met with their AFL counterparts yesterday and today. Both parties will report back to their respective organisations where a potential resumption of the series will be decided upon.
"The meeting focused largely on the issue of playing rules, including disciplinary issues, and the overall organisation and regulation of any new series," explained a GAA statement this evening.
"No further statement will be issued on this matter until both controlling bodies have considered the reports from Nickey Brennan (GAA) and Andrew Demetriou (AFL).
