Two students are to appeal cuts in third-level grants to the Supreme Court. They are being supported by the Union of Students in Ireland.
This follows an unsuccessful attempt in the High Court to secure orders quashing the decision by Minister for Education Ruairí Quinn to introduce the cuts.
A USI statement yesterday said that Mr Quinn and the office of the Chief State Solicitor had been informed of the appeal to the Supreme Court.
“Students across the country were bitterly disappointed with the High Court’s verdict last month and what it will mean for thousands of hard-pressed families across the country, who are struggling to keep the light on and food on the table,” the statement said.
