Racing: Last year's champion juvenile filly Rumplestiltskin tops an increased entry of 85 fillies in the Stan James 1000 Guineas run at Newmarket on May 7th.
This year’s list of contenders has seven more fillies engaged at this stage than last year and totals 11 more than in 2004.
Rumplestiltskin ended last term as the top-rated filly after Group One triumphs in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh and the Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp, and she is one of nine Aidan O’Brien-trained possibles.
The champion Irish trainer’s entry also includes Alexandrova, Race For The Stars and High Chapparal’s sister and Tipperary maiden winner Chenchikova.
Fillies’ Mile winner Nannina is one five entries for trainer John Gosden while Godolphin - bidding for a third success in the Classic - have an eight-strong entry which is headed by Silca’s Sister, formerly trained by Mick Channon, who landed the Group One Prix Morny last term.
Jeremy Noseda’s La Chunga, the only filly to beat Rumplestiltskin last year, has been entered along with stablemate Vague, an impressive dual winner in Dubai before suffering an injury.
Flashy Wings is another interesting contender for Channon while Cheveley Park Stakes winner Donna Blini is a possible for Brian Meehan.
Other possibles include Sir Mark Prescott’s Confidential Lady, the Henry Cecil-trained Star Cluster and French runners Quiet Royal and New Girlfriend.
The unexposed quartet of Queen’s Best, Scottish Stage, Wasseema and Sindirana could represent Sir Michael Stoute while Richard Hannon has entered Group Two May Hill Stakes heroine Nasheej.
