THOSE interested in new playwriting could do worse than drop into the International Bar in Wicklow Street at lunchtime. Mark O'Rowe's 30-minute comedy, Run Down, is funny and original, with a kind of street authenticity.
It is set in the run-down flat of Chris, a yobbo who steals videos. His pal Robbie is with him, and he is worried about his dietary habits; he eats nothing but toast. Mack drops in to buy a video for his girlfriend, and the game's afoot.
All three find they have a common interest, like lust, in the three neighbourhood Joyce sisters, and Mack actually dated one until he was caught two-timing. He is almost buddies with Robbie until it transpires that his current girl dumped Robbie for him. The mood changes, Chris is afflicted with an attack of loyalty, and things turn hilariously ugly.
George Heslin directs with a keen eye for the nicely-judged performances from Tom Feely, Matt Tracey and Les Martin.
