Cancer research in Ireland is to get up to £150,000 from funds raised by this year's Terry Fox Runs, which will take place all over Ireland from September 28th to October 4th.

The money raised will go to cancer research in leading medical centres in NUI Cork, St Vincent's Hospital, Dublin, St James' Hospital, Dublin, and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

The 1998 Terry Fox Run, organised annually by the Irish Cancer Society, was launched at the National Museum yesterday.

Terry Fox was a Canadian whose right leg was amputated because of a malignant tumour. He organised his Marathon Of Hope to raise funds for cancer research - and for 143 days ran an average of a marathon a day.
